Those who prefer a long ride can talk to Kathy Smith. She leads cyclists on 100-mile-a-day, weeklong excursions with Touring Ride in Rural Indiana (Triri), where cyclists pedal from one state park or attraction to the next (with caterers and mechanics in tow). For example, one trip takes cyclist from Earlham College in Richmond to Brown County, Clifty Falls, Spring Mill state parks, then to Bloomington and Terre Haute, before circling back.
One of the highlights of rural in Indiana is the chance to occasionally cross covered bridges. In Carroll County, the one-of-a-kind, historic iron “Stearns Truss” bridge (moved from Pulaski County) is part of the VanScoy Towpath Trail over the Wabash and Erie canals. A 149-foot bridge constructed in 1898 connects multi-use trails in Hamilton County Koteewi Park with the White River Camp Ground in Noblesville. In Plainfield, an 1886 bridge was relocated across White Lick Creek Trail bridge is an 80-foot Warren Pony Truss that came from Randolph County.
